Some of us love having photos taken, while others can’t stand it. Lissy loves being in front of the camera but her boyfriend not so much.  He would rather be the one behind it.

When Lissy proposed a holiday photoshoot on hers and Jayden’s trip to Ho Chi Min City, her other half was a little wary.

“He’s by no means a boyfriend of Instagram,” explains Lissy.

But it was something Lissy really wanted to do.

She and Jayden have been together for eight years and have never had nice photos together.  This was their chance to have some amazing photos taken of their first holiday alone together.

Lissy let us in on some tips how she got her Jayden on board for their holiday photoshoot.

Remind them it doesn’t have to be forced - just forget the photographer is even there

So many of us just don’t know what to do when a camera is pointed at us. It can feel really uncomfortable. This is often the reason for not wanting to have photos taken. It’s also where you come in to remind your partner that a holiday photoshoot doesn’t have to be painful and strained.  It’s not like getting your school photo taken!

Just tell them to relax and pretend it’s just the two of you being your normal selves enjoying your trip.

Spend the hour or however long your shoot is exploring your surrounds as you otherwise would on holiday and forget the photographer is there.

Time flies when you’re having fun

Tell your partner it will be quick, especially if they find the switch in their heads that says ‘have fun’. If it’s really a sticking point, our packages start at 1 hour so book that one!

If it’s about the cost…

The photos will be amazing! Fact.

It’s not much of your travel budget when you think about how much time, effort (and money!) you’re spending on other things. They’re yours forever – their value is priceless.

The images from the photoshoot will allow for the memories to stay fresh.

Plus you get to hang out with a really cool local (who takes amazing photos) and who will probably give you some awesome tips and recommendations for the rest of your stay. It’s so worth it.

"It’s so worth it."

You two will also be so happy that you chose to do a holiday photoshoot because selfies with half of your face cut off and just a bit of the view you want to captured kind of stink to look back on.

The pictures can hang in your home, you can send them to your families and friends, make a scrapbook of your trip and look back on it whenever you want.

Lissy sees the cost as spot-on compared with the value.

"It was our first big trip together and I wanted to commemorate it."

Ask nicely

Lissy says she “asked nicely”. It never hurts to just ask and ask with a smile!

If a holiday photoshoot is something your partner sees is really important to you then surely they will get on board.  You can also compromise and tell your partner that they can choose the dinner spot that night or an activity they want to do.

A holiday photoshoot may be a little nerve-wracking for you or your lover, but once you get into the groove and realise how fun and easy it is, you’ll be sad when it’s over.

Our photographers here at Wanderloud are great at making the experience easy, natural, and fun.

The photos last a lifetime and a holiday photoshoot is a fun addition to your trip too.  Some even say it ended up being the highlight!
